I’m pleased to announce that a podcast interview focusing on my views on trade, globalization, and the U.S. economy went on-line yesterday.  The interview, conducted by veteran talk radio show host Larry Rifkin for his America Trends Podcast, was conducted in late January, so the CCP Virus was just becoming a headline issue.  But I think you’ll agree that the analysis of major problems with U.S. trade policy, why they’ve emerged, and how to handle the China challenge, have held up well.  Here’s the link.

In addition, today, I recorded an interview for John Batchelor’s nationally syndicated radio show for broadcast tonight.  The segment deals with the Trump administration’s announced renewed determination to bring U.S.-owned manufacturing and its supply chains out of China, and also features co-host Gordon G. Chang.

Normally, John’s shows are broadcast live, but virus conditions have prevented easy access to his New York City studio.  I don’t know exacty when my segment will air, but you can listen to the entire show on-line starting at 9 PM EST at this link.  As usual, moreover, I’ll post a link to the podcast as soon as one’s available.

And keep checking in with RealityChek for news of upcoming media appearances and other developments.

I’m pleased to announce the posting on-line of two podcasts of interviews conducted with me on trade policy subjects.

The first is of Wednesday night’s segment on John Batchelor’s nationally syndicated radio show covering the latest developments in the U.S.-China trade confrontation. Click here for a great discussion among John, co-host Gordon G. Chang, and me.

The second is a two-parter I did with former Connecticut radio show host Larry Rifkin on his new America Trends podcast series. It’s a wide-ranging examination of America’s position in the world economy and how we’ve arrived here, and although it goes for about 50 minutes in toto, I think you’ll find that sticking with it will be well worth your while if you have any interest in such subjects. Here’s the link to both. And don’t forget to scroll down the page, because the first part is presented below the second!

I’m pleased to announce some new media appearances this week.

First, here’s a link to a long interview on trade, globalization, the U.S. economy – and, of course, the Trump effect – I gave to Larry Rifkin’s America Trends podcast.  It’s nearly an hour, but I hope lots of you will stick with it for at least a while, because Larry is one of the best interviewers I’ve run across in my decades of experience with the media.

Second, IndustryToday, which I’ll shortly start writing for as a regular columnist, has reposted my RealityChek post documenting what a failure the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) has been for American agriculture – despite endless claims to the contrary.  Here’s the link.

Third, on Tuesday, John Carney of Breitbart.com (yes, the one and only) quoted my views in a post he put up on the news that a Chinese entity is thinking of buying the prized Jeep division of Fiat Chrysler.  You can read it at this link.

Finally, Lifezette.com featured my views and manufacturing jobs data in this Monday post on what voters in Rust Belt swing states think of President Trump’s performance so far.

I’m pleased to announce that the podcast is now on-line of my appearance last night on John Batchelor’s nationally syndicated radio show.  Click here for a great discussion among John, co-host Gordon Chang, and me, of President Trump’s upcoming decision on curbing U.S. imports of steel, and how it may affect the entire global economy – including (what’s left of) America’s.

Moreover, I just finished recording an interview on similar subjects with Larry Rifkin at Americatrendspodcast.com.  Like John and Gordon, Larry is a terrific broadcast journalist and I hope his new venture wins a wide audience.  I’ll keep you posted regarding plans to post our wide-ranging conversation.

I’m pleased to announce the appearance of my newest article published outside RealityChek – a piece for Lifezette.com on the U.S.-China trade conflict that could break out over the automotive sector. Click on the link to find out why autos are an unusual focus for an early Trump administration China trade offensive, but also why it could signal that the current, offshoring-dominated phase of U.S. trade policy could be coming to an end.

In addition, a podcast is now up of my recent interview with Larry Rifkin about what the Trump victory in November portends for U.S. trade policy. Larry is the former host of a long-running talk show on Waterbury, Connecticut’s WATR-AM and one of my favorite broadcast journalists. I was thrilled to find out that he’s come out of a short-lived retirement to start a new venture – America-Trends.com – that will give him much more freedom to explore his passions (like globalization!) in greater depth. I hope you’ll visit Larry’s site to investigate other samples of his work.

Yesterday, Lifezette quoted my views in this news report about a possible China-Mexico team-up on auto trade and manufacturing issues that looks focused on leaving America out in the cold.

On March 26, the Cato Institute’s Ted Galen Carpenter cited some research of mine in a National Interest post on the recent dust-up over whether Germany is contributing its rightful share to the defense of the West and specifically to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

And on March 25, one of America’s leading authorities on immigration, Norman Matloff, gave me and RealityChek a wonderful shout-out on his Upon Closer Inspection blog. Alert RealityChek readers will note that Norm’s blog is on my recommended list, and he really is a must-read on all immigration issues.

To listen live to what’s sure to be a great discussion with host Larry Rifkin, click on this link.

As usual, I’ll post a podcast if and when one is made available.  And keep checking in at RealityChek for news of recent and upcoming media appearances, and other developments.

I’m pleased to present the podcast of my September 30 interview with Waterbury, Connecticut radio host Larry Rifkin on why wrongheaded U.S. trade policies could bring on a rerun of the 2007-08 global financial crisis.  Click on this link for a provocative conversation originally broadcast on WATR-AM about subjects completely neglected by the Mainstream Media –how huge American trade deficits and the flood of cheap credit they sent into the U.S. economy contributed to the spending and housing bubbles that eventually burst so disastrously, and how they’re building up again.

And be sure to keep checking in at RealityChek for news of recent and upcoming media appearances and other events.

P.S. Sorry for sounding a little out of breath at the beginning!  I’d just run to the phone to answer Larry’s call on time!

Making News: Podcast of Last Week’s Connecticut Radio Interview on Trade and the Election

I’m pleased to report that the podcast is now on-line of my interview last week on Waterbury, Connecticut radio.  Click on this link to listen.

You might find this August 11 conversation on trade and the election especially interesting because WATR-AM host Larry Rifkin wanted to spend some time on a vitally important but widely neglected subject:  the relationship between American trade policy’s failures and the outbreak of the financial crisis.  This subject urgently deserves much more attention, if only because comparable failures could be helping set the stage for Financial Crisis 2.0.

I’m pleased to announce that I’m scheduled to appear this morning on Waterbury, Connecticut’s WATR-AM radio to talk about trade’s surprisingly large role in the current presidential election.  The segment, on Larry Rifkin’s “Talk of the Town” show, is slated to air at 10:30 AM EST.

You can listen live at this link to what’s sure to be a timely discussion of President Obama’s endangered Pacific Rim deal, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s assault on longstanding U.S. trade strategies, and the question of where his Democratic rival, Hillary Clinton, really stands on these issues.

As usual, if you can’t tune in, I’ll be posting a podcast of the segment as soon as one’s available.

Businessweek, Larry Rifkin, Lester Thurow, Lifezette.com, Making News, Peter Coy, Washington Post, WATR-AM

I’m pleased to report that this morning, Lifezette.com posted my latest op-ed article.  It takes a close look at Indiana’s economy and explains that, if trade issues are crucial to Hoosier state voters, the contest tomorrow could doom Texas Senator Ted Cruz’ remaining hopes for the Republican presidential nomination and hand the crown to front-runner Donald Trump.  Here’s the link.

Also, at 11:10 AM EST today, I’ll be back on “Talk of the Town” – Larry Rifkin’s popular show on WATR-AM radio in Waterbury, Connecticut.  Our subject today will be trade and the presidential election, and you can listen live at this link.

In addition, it was great to be quoted last week in Peter Coy’s piece in BusinessWeek pointing out that Alexander Hamilton isn’t just the subject of a mega-hit Broadway musical.  He was the Founding Father who arguably deserves the most credit for America’s development into an economic superpower.  Read the piece at this link.

Finally, the late MIT professor Lester Thurow was long one of modern America’s leading voices on domestic and global economic issues.  His obituary in the Washington Post in late March quoted from a review I published in the Post of his last book.  You can read the obit at this link, and the review here.
